Things To Do

Fun, Socially Distant Things to Do This Summer

Find a Drive in Movie Theatre (or Make Your Own)

Some of us may be missing the experience of going to the movies during this time. But good news – drive-in movies are making a comeback! Here is a list of Drive-in movies in the tri-state area and if you’d rather create one in your backyard, here’s a how-to!

Create a Sidewalk Chalk Art Gallery

Buy a bucket of sidewalk chalk and let the creativity run wild for the neighborhood to see! Let the kids create the biggest art project they can imagine. Or you can chalk out a hopscotch court for some fun exercise. Rather stay inside? Pick out a wall in your house, preferably in a basement or playroom, and cover it in chalkboard paint and have it become a canvas!

Visit an Outdoor Farmer’s Market

Farmers markets can be a safer place for shopping than our regular grocery stores due to their outdoor locations. Additionally, markets are part of a shortened supply chain. Many Farmers markets in PA and NJ have adjusted their setups to comply with local guidance and ensure social distancing to keep both customers and vendors safe.

Go Fishing

What better way to social distance than an activity meant to be a solitary, quiet endeavor? Whether you head to the ocean, by a lake or just at a local fishing hole, get the kids outdoors by learning how to fish together. You can find cheap fishing gear online, and in many states, kids under a certain age can fish without a license (check your local ordinances).

Explore your Local Restaurants With Takeout and Delivery

While most restaurants may be scaling back indoor and outdoor dining, those with takeout and delivery services are still going. Teach your kids about food from around the world by ordering from a different cuisine every week or even every night. Chinese one day, Mexican the next. It is a great way to try new things and support your small, local businesses!
