What to Do Before Leaving For Vacation

Vacation season is in full swing! If you have an upcoming vacation, you might want think about what you need to do before you leave your home for a relaxing getaway. Here are a few things to keep in mind to complete before you leave for your vacation!

1. Pay Any Bills Before Leaving

If you have any bills that are scheduled for automatic payment, you want to make sure that you pay off any withstanding balances before you leave! Make sure you don’t get any unnecessary late fee for forgetting this simple task!

2. Unplug All Electronics

All electronics use up a lot of energy. When you go on vacation, you’ll want to unplug any electronics that will not be used during your time away! Save some hard-earned cash and reduce your electricity bill by doing this!

3. Invest in a Timer or Keep Some Lights On

You do not want to leave your home with all your lights off continually. Therefore, you’ll either want to invest in a timer that will turn certain lights on in different rooms or keep a few lights on while you’re away.

4. Stop Mail Service or Have a Neighbor Collect Your Mail

If you are gone for a week, mail is bound to pile up back home. Either stop your mail service for the length of your vacation or ask a trusted neighbor to collect your mail while you are away. Then, when your neighbor goes on vacation, you can return the favor!

5. Adjust Your Thermostat

You’re usually running your AC all summer long to keep your home nice and cool. However, there’s no need to keep your home cool while you are away on vacation. Adjust your thermostat to be a few degrees higher so you can save a bit on your electricity bill. Just don’t turn off your AC completely! You want air circulating in your home to control humidity.

6. Seal Any Open Food

If you are leaving any opened food behind in your home, then you’ll want to make sure it is properly sealed and protected! You don’t want to leave any chance for pests to enter your home.

7. Freeze a Meal

Making and freezing a meal ahead of your vacation is a pretty smart move once you come home from your amazing getaway. You’ll be so relieved when you come home and all you have to do is reheat a nice meal for everyone to enjoy! No cooking, no ordering out, just a delicious dinner ready for you to reheat!
