Relaxing Touches to Add to Any Room

Right now, we all want our homes to be our happy place. Read on for small touches you can add to any room to give it a more relaxing feel:

Go Green

Green, with its connection to nature, is a peaceful color, yet also conveys a feeling of freshness and growth. Decorating the bedroom with living plants or botanical designs can relax the senses. Potted plants; artwork depicting flowers, trees or fields; bedding or window treatments with botanical designs…all these are great additions to any space in your home. Sticking with a palette of mostly-mid-tone greens, as well as plenty of white, also ups the serenity factor.

Dark, Restful Walls

A deep shade of blue, green, or gray can be very restful. The right color can create a backdrop that tones down the entire room.

Add a Bean Bag

Adding a bean bag or floor cushion makes your space look warm and very inviting. Incorporating ones made of soft or fuzzy fabrics can totally transform the vibe of your family room or bedroom. They are so comfortable and perfect for movie night or just lounging around.

Create a Storage Area

A family room or kid’s room usually has lots of bits and pieces lying around at one time or another. You can create hanging baskets to store small objects like pencils, paper, and batteries, along with an area for storage of kids’ books and toys. If you have a pet, you might want to be sure you have a space for their bed and toys as well.

Incorporate Natural Lighting

Lighting is so important. Natural sunlight can instantly lift one’s mood, so be sure to let it in wherever possible! Don’t block a room’s natural sunlight. Be sure to keep shades pulled up and curtains and drapes pulled off to the sides.

Use Dimmers

Having the ability to change your lighting level is so important in cultivating the mood of a space. Dim lights will be less harsh on the senses and the soft lighting will instantly create a peaceful mood in any space.
