Creative Ideas for Valentine’s Day At Home

Valentine's Day

With such a beautiful new home, why not stay in and have a romantic Valentine’s Day alone with your sweetie? This way, you don’t have to fight the crowds, worry about booking reservations or dressing up. Check out these creative ideas for Valentine’s Day at home.

Make Your Own Pizza

Instead of expensive takeout, buy your own dough, sauce and toppings and make a heart-shaped pizza. Make the dinner together for an extra bonding experience, and pair it with wine and other heart-shaped foods like chocolates and cookies. Get the kids involved too – they love to be involved in the kitchen. And Valentine’s Day isn’t just for sweethearts!

Spa Treatments

It’s no secret most ladies love a little pampering at the spa, but the guys? Well, sure! Promise not to tell anyone and spend the night giving each pampering spa treatments, from manicures to pedicures. Don’t stop there: try face masks and cucumbers too, all while sipping wine and sampling chocolates. Who says a spa day has to be just for the girls?

Indoor Picnic

Pack a basket full of heart-shaped finger sandwiches, candy, champagne, and anything else you love to eat. Grab a checkered blanket and spread it on the floor, then enjoy a picnic in the park from the comfort of your living room.

Scavenger Hunt

This one takes some forethought but the results are well worth it. Write down clues on small pieces of paper with directions to find the next clue. Include a gift at the end as a reward. Make it really special by making the clues into poems.

Roses for the Future

Buy a dozen roses and attach a small card or label to each with promises of a future date, such as “go to the movies” or “take in a Broadway show.” You could do this with other items, too, such as bottles of wine. These act as little promises of what’s to come throughout the remaining 12 months of the year.

Scrapbook

Make a scrapbook or write a handmade book about you both as a couple. Include photos, memories, and mementos of when you first met, got married, had kids – wherever your journey has taken you.

A Jar of Compliments

This one you’ll have to start now. Each day, write one reason why you love your partner on a small slip of paper, fold it and place in a jar on the counter. On Valentine’s Day evening, sit down together and take turns opening the papers and reading the comments. It’s nice to be appreciated now and then!

Of course, while Valentine’s Day is a wonderful way to commemorate your love for one another, you should do little things throughout the year to enjoy each other – and your home – in harmony.
